Blockchain and Global Shipping – A Review

Abstract

Blockchain has the potential to disrupt many industries. The supply chain and specifically global shipping is no exception. This article is written to introduce the reader to a few of the facts about global shipping and some of the blockchain solutions that are being created to address some of the weaknesses of the current system. This introduction is not designed to be a comprehensive discussion of the disruption, rather an appetizer to increase the appetite of the reader to learn more. Blockchain is the lubrication that is transforming several industries around the world. In this article, the industry we are going to focus on, for blockchain technology adoption, is global shipping. We also look at a case study on Marine Transport International’s recently launched blockchain solution.
