Pill Ingestion Action Recognition using MediaPipe Holistic to monitor elderly patients

Abstract

To treat an elderly patient remotely, a health worker must face many significant challenges such as keeping track of daily medications. If there is discontinuation in taking medications, the patient might have to deal with serious health effects. In this study, I want to propose a computer vision system that can identify and keep a record of a patient taking medication. Although the algorithm for recognizing medication intake action is at the early stages, I was able to see the use of the MediaPipe Holistic pipeline can make remote patient monitoring easier. This paper discusses a literature review of some of the works done in this area and the progress that I have made to achieve the objective.
